Butler Family Curve Balls

November 28, 2010

This is the beginning of the Advent season.  The Advent season brings lots of bittersweet memories to my daily thoughts this week.  This time last year we were trying with desperation to figure out what caused the swollen lymph gland in my husband John's neck.  The doctors (there were many including a dentist, GP, ENT and infectious disease specialist) who all insisted it was not cancer.  John was too healthy for cancer (whatever that means)!  At this time one year ago, we did not know yet what was wrong but I think that maybe we really did know. On December 23, 2009, my husband and the father of our two little girls was diagnosed with Stage 4b head and neck cancer.  Thus begin a journey of curve balls for this family of four.  A journey of curve balls that I have decided to write about for fear that all the curves in my head after this year will just keep me spinning unless I talk about them.  Thus trying to straighten it all out.  I will also start the blog by saying that as August 2010, John is cancer free.  We are not free of curve balls but we are free of cancer and that has already made this advent season a lot better than last.

Love,

Bec
